The very title of our feisty little rag should, <em>per se<\/em>, disabuse you of any misconceptions. Much like the disposition of any member of our editorial staff, the <em>Journal<\/em>\u2019s title is just as audacious, ambitious and pompous as it is noncommittal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What shall we publish? Don\u2019t race all at once for the dictionary! We\u2019ll save you the trouble. \u201cM\u00c9LANGE\u201d is a noun borrowed from French, meaning \u201cWe\u2019ll publish whatever we damn please.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How often? Ask any logophile: \u201cOccasional,\u201d adjective, means \u201cWhenever we damn please.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignleft\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Bond be damned. Fictional character or not, the idiot has no idea how to order a drink.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJournal\u201d means \u2014\u2014 well, we\u2019re grasping for, and failing to arrive at, anything jocose or <em>sarcastique<\/em>, so any definition found in <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/journal\" target=\"_blank\">Merriam Webster<\/a> will have to suffice. Except we advise you to ignore the \u201cdaily\u201d bit (from the Old French <em>jurnal<\/em>, reflected in the modern French <em>jour<\/em>, quite literally \u201cday,\u201d as in <em>soupe du <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">jour<\/span><\/em>). Because between our day jobs and our million hyperfixations, we\u2019re almost certainly not going to be doing anything <em>daily<\/em> here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And in case you missed the whole \u201cM\u00c9LANGE\u201d bit back at the front, please allow us to flog the proverbial <em>equus mortuus<\/em> with the \u201cEverything\u201d at the tail end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everything: that\u2019s what we\u2019ll produce, publish and proudly present to you. We find ourselves in the  same (what we&#8217;d deem enviable) predicament as Salinger\u2019s Buddy Glass, who warned his own readers that there\u2019s little more \u201ctotally draining\u201d than \u201can ecstatically happy writing person,\u201d because of what such people will drown you in: purple prose.
